Fight or Flight

Fight or Flight’ is a term used for your reaction when faced with a sudden unforeseen demanding situation. Your decision to ‘face the situation boldly and squarely would amount to ‘fight, whereas ‘running away from the required actions/task/procrastinating’ would be called ‘flight’.

I am a fighter. Most of us are. When faced with a stressful situation, I pull out ALL the resources. I've always been that way. When they announced school was being closed Thursday night, I didn't go to bed until I had a zoom account set up. That's just how I'm wired.

We want to control. We want to CHOOSE if we get to go to work. We want to CHOOSE if our kids get to go to school. We want to CHOOSE if we go on vacation. We want to choose to buy toilet paper. ;)

When we lose our ability to choose, then we can't be in control. We get anxious. That's how humans are wired, it's simple.

In the last week, we've all been fighters. When faced with the news that we were closing school, fight mode kicked in. I, and many others across America were determined that life would go on as normal as possible. Teachers prepared lessons, sent home supplies, and declared a vow to keep life normal. Because we are fighters, and because we care.

I know that in the last week I have bombarded my parents with resources and ways to keep some form of normalcy. But, that too can create anxiety. Too much information about anything can cause overload, and then a flight response. I'm truly sorry if I've overloaded anyone, parents or nonparents with info and resources shared. <3

We are fighters. We continue to order from restuarants, because we want to help out the local business. We are fighters in that we continue to shop at the local business. We fight on.

I got a text this morning that put this week in perspective. When this person sent it, I know they had no idea how it would impact.

It was a simple dance text that said, "No live classes for the rest of the week. I am taking a day to stop, breathe, and accept." Natalia, wow so powerful.

I've been too busy fighting, that I haven't thought to "stop, breathe, and accept." Life feels too much like the twilight zone at the moment.

After the ice storm, we often would say, "wow, that was kind of nice. It was nice slowing down for a bit."

Let's enjoy today.

For now, breathe. stop. and accept. Read a book, build a puzzle, play with your kids. Do things on your to do list that you haven't had time for.

Keep making lemonade, and this too shall pass. <3
